Creative Industry Conference Amsterdam 4th-5h February
On 4th and 5th February 2010, the European Commission, in cooperation with European Design Centre, City of Amsterdam, Dutch Designers Association BNO and IIP-Create are holding the workshop “Towards a Pan-European initiative in support of innovative creative industries in Europe”. The seminar will present and further discuss empirical evidence on the economic importance of creative industries for growth and innovation; creative industries are not only an important economic factor in itself but also fuelling the economy with knowledge and dynamism. The seminar will identify key drivers for the emergence of favourable “eco-systems” for creative industries in Europe, such as enabling competences, skills, technologies and the interplay between different innovation actors and institutions in this field. Based on this analysis, the possible scope and policy objectives for a more strategic European approach in support of innovation in creative industries will be discussed.
The seminar is planned as a 2 day event and has the objective to bring together relevant experts and actors in the field of innovation and creative industries to discuss how to better link between creativity and innovation. To build a strong Europe, efforts need to be undertaken to better exploit the innovation potential of creative industries in Europe. This may call for a strategic alliance between the different policy initiatives launched in support of creative industries at regional, national and European level. The challenge is to promote better trans-national cooperation in this field, with the view to turn Europe’s cultural diversity into a competitive advantage for innovation and the creation of new and better jobs in Europe. www.edc.nl/amsterdamconference
